Caroline Pauwels (SMIT)

Caroline Pauwels heads the Department of Communication Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and is director of SMIT (Studies on Media, Information and Telecommunication). She lectures on national and European communication policy. Her main domain of competence is in the field of European audiovisual policy making, entertainment economy and convergence and concentration issues in media industries. In 1998 she was appointed to the Flemish Media Council (advisory committee to the minister of Media), and in 2000 she became director of research centre SMIT. In 2007 she joined the Board of Directors of the VRT (Flemish Public Broadcast Company).
